I'm gonna catch you rain drop!

austin water utilities has a deal on rain water barrels.  these normally cost around $150 each but the local water co subsidizes the cost so they are $60 each.  ours are set to catch excess rain water from the green roof/deck.

whole house audio wireless server is working!  bought a used mini mac and plugged in an airport express.  now I can get music from one library to play on the five different stereos we have around the house.  I can even control it from my itouch.  getting this set up has caused many problems and some friction.

my wife is normally the computer person and I'm normally the stereo/music person.  just as nostradamus had predicted, the future will have computers morphing with other household appliances, including the stereo, quite possibly the microwave and espresso machine as well.  he might have predicted some other stuff too, less interesting stuffs not involving itunes, beverages bikinis etc.  I prefer his lesser known weekend type predictions.  the week day prediction stuff is a bit dark and oppressive.

I'm still working on getting a shine on these floors.

here is an article for the 2008 cool house tour.  we are "unconventional"

I see they did use pics from the blog and none from the professional photographer.

22% is fairly good. Much higher than that and you can really shell out some cash. Should suit a residential application fairly well. At first I thought you were having some sort of problem with the sealer, but now I see that you are just freshening it up. I've been in the concrete business for a long time, and it is amazing how a good sealer can make a floor (or countertop) look. It will definitely bring out the colors of the aggregate and the glass.

I am using just one airport express. the mini is hard wired to an onkyo receiver in the media room that powers speakers in the dining room. the onkyo line out feeds the harmon kardon receiver in the media room and magnepan spkrs etc.

now the airport express gets the music to the other end of the house where I have three stereos sort of daisy chained. this wiring was put in the walls before drywall. I could do it all with more airport express devices, but they are already connected and the major task was getting the music over to that end of the house w/o running wires.

there are two programs that allow you to use your itouch or iphone as an itunes remote. so far they will only work on a mac, hence the mini dedicated server. one is called REMOTE BUDDY, that is what I use. it will offer a greater degree of functions. the other is roami and it is only $10 but lets you view and select playlists, play/pause music, shuffle selections, and adjust the volume only. does not allow you to select artists and songs from the library.

our concrete floor has recycled glass chip in it. it was diamond polished and then I finished it with products from the janitorial supply store. it never had any gloss. so then we stripped it and applied "wet look" finish and now it has a nice sheen and the glass chips are more obvious. also now using some high gloss finish I found at sam's for cheap, water based and 22% solids.

Can I ask what exactly you are trying to do to the polished concrete floor? Perhaps I can offer some advice. I've got a fair amount of experience in that area.

Can you elaborate on your Mac mini wireless music solution? Particularly: how do you send to 5 stereos with one Airport Express (or do you use 5 of them)? how do you control it via your iPod touch?

thanks!
Steven
